The Bear

My husband gave me this beautiful piece created by a Native American artisan when he was on his cross-country trip with his sister 2 years ago. It’s a beautiful reminder that he still thinks of me this way. His “earthy crunchy girl”. I miss feeling like that. It’s a piece of me I have lost a bit of. But, when I look at this clay bear with the dancer, the dragonfly, and the hand of protection etched in it, I can’t help but see myself reflected. Earthy and raw. Like I was in college; creatively unafraid of anything and open to chances and failure because it was all an experiment. I miss the me of then. Age drew me in, experience closed me up and at the same time, the wisdom I have gained is palpable. I long to be willing to let go and release that fearless creative again.

I am the dragonfly moving swiftly in the magic, the hand protecting my choices and the wise bear of time bringing me back down to earth knowing that to live fully, I must embrace where I am.
